I wrote this song with the incredible Kaity Rae, and we were talking about how sometimes relationships with friends can sometimes get quite toxic and then are really hard to walk away from. And Kaity said "it'd be so much easier if they were an ex. You could break up and move on". So that's where the line "Wish u were my ex" came from!

People don't respond the same when you cut out a toxic friend from your life, it's usually "ah no, you've been friends forever, that's a shame, hopefully you guys will work it out" but if a partner isn't treating you well and you break up it's all "good for you! You were too good for them!" No one questions your decision.
